Personal perspective

Why I Do This Work

Coming from a Caribbean background, growing up in a culturally diverse environment, being multilingual, and working across nursing and correctional settings have all shaped the way I understand mental health.

I have seen firsthand that mental health challenges do not belong to one age, one gender, one culture, or one type of family. They can affect anyone.

I have seen anxiety and depression strain marriages. I have seen parents become overwhelmed trying to support a child they do not know how to help. I have seen caregivers exhausted by the weight of caring for someone they love. I have seen young adults struggle to stay in school while trying to manage symptoms that others may not even see.

I have seen mental health challenges become so overwhelming that leaving the house feels impossible. I have seen families struggle to understand what is happening to someone they love and feel helpless trying to support them.

Those experiences are a large part of why this work matters so much to me.

I do not believe mental health care should stop at treating a diagnosis or prescribing a medication. Mental health affects relationships, sleep, physical health, school, work, confidence, family life, and the way a person experiences the world.

My goal is to care for the whole person.

If I can help one person feel understood, help one family feel less overwhelmed, or be part of one success story where someone begins to feel like themselves again, that work means the world to me.

“Mental health is only one part of your story.
We care for the whole you.”

Mind. Body. Family. Culture. Life.

Your first visit

Your First Visit

Your first appointment is a non-judgmental space to talk through what has been going on. Alicia will take time to understand past medical and psychiatric history, prior medications and treatments, current symptoms, and your goals.

Medication options, expected benefits, possible side effects, and safety considerations are explained thoroughly. Together, you will build a plan that feels clear, realistic, and right for your needs.

When controlled medications are being considered, additional records, monitoring, laboratory testing, PDMP review, or agreements may be required when clinically appropriate.
