Understanding ADHD
What is ADHD?
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, often called ADHD, is a neurodevelopmental condition that can affect attention, impulse control, planning, organization, working memory, and emotional regulation. ADHD is not a lack of effort or motivation. Many people with ADHD are capable and creative, but daily tasks can take more effort when the brain has difficulty regulating attention and follow-through.
Common Signs
What ADHD can look like.
ADHD can look different depending on age, setting, stress level, and other mental health needs. Symptoms may be subtle, especially in people who have learned to compensate for years.
Children and teens
- Difficulty sitting still, waiting, or following directions
- Trouble completing schoolwork or staying organized
- Forgetfulness, impulsivity, or emotional outbursts
- Feeling frustrated, misunderstood, or easily overwhelmed
Adults
- Chronic procrastination or missed deadlines
- Disorganization at home, work, or school
- Difficulty starting tasks or finishing what was started
- Restlessness, racing thoughts, or emotional sensitivity
Older adults
- Longstanding attention or organization struggles
- Difficulty managing routines, paperwork, or appointments
- Feeling scattered, mentally overloaded, or easily distracted
- Questions about whether lifelong symptoms may be ADHD
How We Help
Care that connects symptoms to real-life support.
We focus on understanding what is happening in everyday life, not just checking boxes. Your provider will talk with you about symptoms, history, goals, functioning, and any related concerns such as anxiety, depression, sleep issues, or stress.
Evaluation
We help clarify whether ADHD may be contributing to attention, organization, impulsivity, or executive-function concerns.
Treatment planning
Care may include medication management, therapy support, behavioral strategies, coaching tools, or referrals when additional testing is needed.
Practical strategies
We help patients build routines, improve follow-through, reduce overwhelm, and create systems that support school, work, and home life.
What To Expect
Your first visit.
Your first appointment is a chance to talk through what you have been noticing, what has been difficult, and what kind of support would feel useful. We review symptoms, medical and mental health history, current medications, school or work concerns, and your goals for care. If ADHD treatment is appropriate, your provider will discuss options and next steps with you.
